How Restasis works
- Cyclosporine is a powerful immunosuppressive agent with an increasing number of clinical applications.
- Its main mode of action is to inhibit the production of cytokines involved in regulating T-cell activation.
- In particular, cyclosporine inhibits interleukin transcription.
Special medical uses Restasis
- It is a medication used to treat eye symptoms related to Sjögren's syndrome, a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the glands that produce tears and saliva do not work properly.
- Restasis drops are used to treat chronic dry eyes that may result from inflammation.
How to use Restasis
- The dose is one drop in each eye twice daily.
- Use Restasis eye drops every 12 hours (approximately).
- Doses may be changed in special circumstances, so always follow your doctor or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to your doctor or go to hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.
Restasis side effects
- Although any of the following side effects are not common, some patients may suffer from:
- Mild burning or stinging in the eye.
- Mild redness or itching.
- Blurred vision or
- Feeling like something is in your eye.
Pregnancy and lactation precautions while taking Restasis
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
