**Ferinject (Ferric Carboxymaltose) – The Preferred IV Iron Solution When Oral Iron Isn't Enough**
Iron deficiency is the world's most common nutritional deficiency, particularly affecting pregnant women, chronic kidney disease patients, and those with inflammatory bowel disease. When oral iron fails due to intolerance or insufficient response, Ferinject's advanced ferric carboxymaltose formulation allows large replenishment doses in a single session — the fastest, most effective solution.
**Active Ingredient:**
Ferric Carboxymaltose 50mg elemental iron per mL — intravenous solution.
**Medical Indications:**
Iron deficiency (with or without anemia) in adults and children when:
- Oral iron preparations are not tolerated or produce insufficient clinical response.
- Rapid iron repletion is required (pre-surgical correction, late-stage pregnancy).
- Iron deficiency in non-dialysis dependent chronic kidney disease.
- Iron deficiency in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis).
- Iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy.
**Ferinject Advantages Over Traditional IV Iron:**
- **Higher Single-Dose Capacity:** Up to 1000mg of iron can be administered in a single 15-minute session — compared to multiple sessions required with older iron sucrose preparations.
- **No Test Dose Required:** Unlike older intravenous iron formulations that required a precautionary test dose.
- **Rapid Clinical Response:** Hemoglobin and ferritin levels rise significantly within 4 weeks of treatment.
**Administration (Medical Supervision Only):**
- Administered exclusively via slow intravenous injection (IV push) or infusion (IV drip).
- For infusion: dilute in 0.9% sodium chloride solution only (minimum 2mg iron/mL concentration).
- Maximum single dose: 1000mg (20mL) or 15mg/kg body weight.
- Total cumulative dose calculated based on patient weight and hemoglobin level (Ganzoni formula).
**Warnings:**
- Administer only in a medical facility equipped to manage acute hypersensitivity reactions.
- Monitor patient throughout administration and for 30 minutes post-infusion.
- Do not administer intramuscularly or subcutaneously.
- Store below 30°C, do not freeze, protect from light in original packaging.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Prescription-only medication (Rx). For intravenous administration only in a clinical setting under medical supervision.
