Nevanac eye drops:

Nepafenac Eye Drops 1mg Nepafenac 5ml Nepafenac Ophthalmic is used to treat eye pain, redness and swelling in patients recovering from cataract surgery (a procedure to treat a clouding of the lens in the eye).

  • Nepafenac is in a class of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS).
  • It works by stopping the production of certain natural substances that cause pain and swelling.

Instructions for use:

  • Before you start treatment, read the manufacturer's printed information leaflet from inside the pack.
  • It will give you more information about using the eye drops and will also provide you with a full list of side-effects which you may experience from using them.
  • Use the drops exactly as your doctor tells you to.

Usual dose:

  • One drop three times daily.
  • You will likely be asked to start using the drops the day before your surgery, and to continue using them for several weeks afterward.

How to use the drops:

  • Wash your hands first.
  • Shake the bottle well then remove the cap.
  • Tilt your head back slightly and pull the lower eyelid down to form a pocket.
  • Hold the bottle upside down near your eye. Try not to touch your eyes while doing this.
  • Gently squeeze the base of the bottle to release one drop into your eye.
  • Close your eyes for a minute or two, gently pressing the side of your nose where the corner of your eye meets your nose. This helps keep the drop from draining away and keeping it in your eye.
  • Repeat the procedure in your other eye if you are told to use the drops in both eyes.
  • Replace the cover.

Warnings and precautions:

  • Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions, and sometimes a medicine can only be used if extra caution is taken.

For these reasons, before you start using nepafenac drops, it is important that your doctor knows:

  • If you have ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine. It is especially important to tell your doctor if you know you are allergic to NSAIDs such as naproxen, ibuprofen, or diclofenac, or if you have had a bad reaction to aspirin.
  • If you have a tendency to bleed easily.
  • If you know you have an eye infection.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you suffer from diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis.
  • If you are taking any other medicines or using any other eye drops. This includes any medicines you take that are available to buy without a prescription, as well as herbal and complementary medicines.
