This medicinal product is used to help people quit smoking.
- It counteracts smoking relapse in smokers who are motivated to quit.
Do not take nicotine:
- if you are allergic to nitrofurantoin or other medicines that contain nitrofurantoin or any of the if you are allergic to nicotine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- If you are a non smoker.
- If you are under 12 years old.
Warnings and precautions:
- Talk to your doctor before taking nicotine
- if you have ever had any heart problems such as a recent heart attack, or have had heart rhythm problems, heart failure or chest pain (angina, including Prinzmetal's angina).
- If you have had a "stroke" (a cerebrovascular accident).
- If you suffer from high blood pressure.
- If you have circulation problems.
- If you suffer from diabetes.
- If you have an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), overactive adrenal glands (pheochromocytoma).
- If you suffer from kidney or liver disease.
- If you have esophagitis, a sore mouth or throat, gastritis or peptic ulcers.
- If you have a history of epilepsy (fits).
Possible side effects:
- nausea
- sore throat
- swelling
Other medicines and nicotine:
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
- If you stop smoking and if you are using other medicines your doctor may want to adjust your dose. No information is available on interactions between nicotine lozenges and other medications. However, apart from nicotine, other substances in cigarettes may have an effect on some medications.
- Stopping smoking can affect the action of some medicines, such as:
- theophylline (a medicine used to treat bronchial asthma)
- tacrine (a drug used to treat Alzheimer's disease)
- olanzapine and clozapine (to treat schizophrenia)
- The dose of insulin (medicines used to treat diabetes) may need to be adjusted.
How to store nicotine:
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Do not store above 25°C.
- Store the medicine in its original package. Keep away from moisture and light.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on each outer carton. The expiration date refers to the last day of the same month.
- Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste.
