Kyrindia Fenenrenone 10 mg - 28 Tablets Kyrindia contains the active ingredient Venenenone. Fenerenone is a non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA). The active ingredient prevents hormones from triggering certain processes that can damage your kidneys.

Kerendia is used in adults with chronic kidney disease and type 2 diabetes to slow the progression of kidney damage.

Chronic kidney disease occurs when the kidneys become less able to remove waste and fluid from the blood. Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which your body cannot maintain blood sugar levels at normal levels.

What precautions should be taken?

Your doctor has decided that you can take Kyrindia and has determined the appropriate dose for you. Your doctor based these decisions on the results of blood tests. These tests measure potassium levels in the blood and kidney function.

After 4 weeks of taking Kyrindia, more blood tests will be done. Based on the test results, your doctor will decide at which dose you should continue treatment.

Your doctor may repeat blood tests at certain intervals during your treatment with Kerendia.

When should you not take Kyrindia?

Do not take Kyrindia if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredient Verinone or any of the other ingredients of Kyrindia.

You should not take Kyrindia if you are taking other medicines that belong to a group called “strong CYP3A4 inhibitors” such as:

Itraconazole or ketoconazole to treat fungal infections

Ritonavir, nelfinavir or cobicistat to treat HIV infection

Clarithromycin or telithromycin to treat bacterial infections

Nefazodone to treat depression

You should not take Kyrindia if you have Addison's disease, as your body does not produce enough of the hormones cortisol and aldosterone.

When should you be careful when taking Kyrindia?

Please talk to your doctor before taking Kyrindia if you:

You have or have had in the past a high level of potassium in your blood,

you have severe renal insufficiency or kidney failure,

You have moderate or severe liver damage.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any medicines that may affect your treatment with Kerendia. If you take other medicines from the group of 'moderate or weak CYP3A4 inhibitors' during treatment with Kerendia, you may experience more side effects because they may increase the concentration of phenerenone in the blood (see 'What side effects may occur with Kerendia?'). . This may apply, for example, when taking the following medicines:

  • Erythromycin (used to treat bacterial infections)
  • Verapamil (used to treat high blood pressure, chest pain, and rapid heartbeat).
  • Amiodarone (used to treat irregular heartbeats).
  • Fluvoxamine (used to treat depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder).
  • Kyrindia may not work as expected if you are taking other medicines belonging to the “strong or moderate CYP3A4 enhancers” group during treatment with Kyrindia, because they may reduce the concentration of verenone in your blood. This may apply, for example, when taking the following medicines:

Rifampicin (used to treat bacterial infections).

Carbamazepine, phenytoin, or phenobarbital (used to treat epilepsy).

St. John's wort (herbal medicine used to treat depression)

Efavirenz (used to treat HIV infection).

It may be dangerous for you if you take other medicines that can increase the level of potassium in your blood while you are being treated with Kerindia. Your blood potassium level may be very high if you take any of these medicines, for example:

Amiloride or triamterene (“water tablets” that remove excess water from the body through urine)

Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists similar to fenrenone, such as eplerenone, isaxerenone, spironolactone, or canrenone (used to regulate blood pressure and heart function).

Trimethoprim or a combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole (used to treat bacterial infections).

Potassium supplements

Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking Kyrindia.
