Atomoxetine is known to be a potent and selective norepinephrine transporter (NET) inhibitor, which blocks norepinephrine uptake by cells throughout the brain, increasing the presence of norepinephrine which is thought to improve ADHD symptoms.

Special medical uses

• Atomoxetine is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
• They are used:

1. In children over six years of age
2. In teenagers
3. In adults: This medication is used to treat ADHD when symptoms are very bothersome and affect your work or social life or you had symptoms of the disease when you were a child.
4. It is not used as a treatment for ADHD in children under 6 years of age because it is not known if the medication works or is safe in these people.

the use :

• The capsules should be swallowed whole, with or without food.
• The capsules should not be opened and the capsule contents should not be removed and taken in any other way.
• If you are a child or teenager (6 years or older):

1. Body weight up to 70 kg: Total daily dose starting at 0.5 mg per kg body weight for a minimum of 7 days.
2. Body weight more than 70 kg: Total daily dose starting at 40 mg for a minimum of 7 days

• Children should not take this medicine without the help of an adult
• Adults: Atomoxetine should be started with a total daily dose of 40 mg for a minimum of 7 days.
• Doses may be changed in special circumstances, so always follow your doctor or pharmacist's instructions.
• If you take more medicine than you should, talk to your doctor or go to hospital straight away.
• If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose
• Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.

Special side effects:

• Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may report:

1. Feeling a very fast heartbeat or an abnormal heartbeat
2. Feeling aggressive
3. Feeling angry (hostility)
4. Mood swings or mood changes
5. A serious allergic reaction with symptoms of swelling of the face and throat
6. difficulty breathing
7. Allergy (small raised, itchy patches of skin)
8. Seizures (convulsions)
9. Psychotic symptoms including hallucinations (hearing voices or seeing things that are not there), believing things that are not true or having doubts
