EUTHYROX LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM Hyperthyroidism of any origin except for concomitant therapy in the treatment of hyperthyroidism with antithyroid drugs after normal function has been achieved. Thyrotoxicosis, acute myocardial infarction, uncorrected adrenal insufficiency. Levothyroxine is a thyroid hormone medication used to replace the lack of thyroid hormone available in your body. It is used to treat
the following indicators:
• Hypothyroidism, a medical condition that causes the thyroid gland to produce less than normal amount of thyroid hormone. The job of thyroid hormone is to regulate your metabolism. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include: cold intolerance, muscle pain, hair loss, deep voice, fatigue, weight gain, and dry, flaky skin.
• Tumors that respond to TSH (type of thyroid tumor).
When does the thyroid drug Euthyrox start working?
The patient should begin to feel better a few days after starting Euthyrox. But it may take a few months for thyroid hormone levels to return to normal.
How long does it take to treat hypothyroidism Euthyrox?
The patient may have to use Euthyrox for long periods of 6 months or a year and sometimes throughout life, depending on the degree of hypothyroidism. Euthyrox 100 or Euthyrox 50 mg should be taken on an empty stomach about an hour before food with a full glass of water.
The doctor asks the patient to take blood tests for the thyroid gland before determining the appropriate dose.
Patient may experience side effects such as weight loss, nausea, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, and menstrual irregularities for women. Euthyrox is safe during pregnancy and lactation but should be used under medical supervision.
HOW TO USE EUTHYROX
Read the patient information leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking levothyroxine and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily on an empty stomach, 30 minutes to 1 hour before breakfast. Take this medication with a full glass of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise.
