This type of diabetes occurs due to the body’s inability to produce a sufficient amount of insulin, and the amount that the body seeks does not work properly. This medicine can also improve insulin levels in the blood after eating meals.

How vildagliptin and metformin work
- Vildagliptin is an inhibitor of DPP-4, an enzyme that degrades incretin hormones including glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1).
- Incretin helps the body produce more insulin only when it is needed and reduces the amount of glucose produced by the liver
- Metformin reduces blood glucose levels by decreasing glucose production in the liver
- Metformin reduces intestinal absorption of glucose
- Metformin increases insulin sensitivity resulting in increased glucose uptake and utilization
Medical uses of Galvus MT 850/50 Tablets
- It is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients whose diabetes is not adequately controlled with metformin hydrochloride or vildagliptin alone.
How to use Galvus MT 850/50 Tablets
- It should be taken with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin hydrochloride.
- It can be started at a dose of 50 mg/500 mg once daily and gradually titrated to a maximum dose of 50 mg/1000 mg twice daily after assessing your response to treatment.
- Doses higher than 100 mg of vildagliptin are not recommended
- Doses may be changed in special circumstances, so always follow your doctor or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more medicine than you should, talk to your doctor or go to hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.
