Hydrasec Infant Racecadotril 10 mg Symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adults Complementary treatment of symptoms of acute diarrhea in infants (>3 months) and children with oral rehydration (ORS). If symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea is possible, racecadotril may be coadministered.

Hidrasec is a medicine to treat diarrhea.

Hidrasec is used to treat the symptoms of acute diarrhea in children over three months old. It should be used in combination with high fluid intake and the usual nutritional measures, when these measures are not sufficiently effective on their own to control diarrhea, and when diarrhea cannot be treated causally.

Instructions for use:

Always give Hidrasec to your child exactly as your doctor has told you to. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Hidrasec is supplied in the form of granules.

The granules should be added to food or mixed with water in a bottle or baby bottle. Mix well and give it immediately to your child.

The recommended daily dose is based on your child's weight: 1.5 mg/kg per dose (equivalent to 1 to 2 sachets), three times daily at regular intervals.

For infants weighing up to 9 kg: one sachet per dose.

Infants weighing 9-13 kg: 2 sachets per dose.

Your doctor will tell you how long treatment with Hidrasec will continue. You should continue until your child has two normal stools, no later than 7 days.

To compensate for fluid loss due to your child's diarrhea, this medicinal product should be used with appropriate replacement of fluids and salts (electrolytes). Replacement of fluids and salts is best achieved using so-called oral rehydration solutions (please consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure).

Warnings and precautions:

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before giving Hidrasec to your child if:

Your baby is less than three months old,

There is blood or pus in your child's stool and if he or she has a fever. Diarrhea may be caused by a bacterial infection that should be treated by your doctor,

Your child suffers from chronic diarrhea or diarrhea caused by antibiotics.

Your child has kidney disease or poor liver function.

Your child has prolonged or uncontrolled vomiting,

Your child has diabetes (see 'Important information about some of the ingredients of Hidrasec).

Skin reactions have been reported with this product. These are in most cases mild and moderate. When severe skin reactions occur, treatment should be discontinued immediately

Other medicines and Hidrasec:

Please tell your doctor if your child is using, has recently used or might use any other medicines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Hidrasec is not recommended for use in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines:

Hidrasec has little or no effect on the ability to drive and use machines.

Hidrasec contains sucrose

Hidrasec contains about 1 gram of sucrose per sachet.

If your doctor tells you that your child has an intolerance to certain sugars, ask your doctor before you give Hidrasec to your child.

In infants with diabetes, if the doctor prescribes to your child more than 5 sachets of Hidrasec per day (which is equivalent to more than 5 grams of sucrose), this should be taken into account in the child's total daily sugar intake.
